I started taking the crab apple essence 3 days ago, 4 drops 4 times/day and I'm actually feeling worse from it. I feel hungover, hypoglycaemic, brain-fogged, and exhausted. Is this just part of the "healing crisis" that is sometimes talked about in homeopathy? Should I keep taking them? How long should I expect to wait until I start making positive gains? I can understand giving the medicine a chance to do its work, but I really can't afford to be tired and out-of-it for more than a week unless I know for sure that it's going to pay off.
I had a similar reaction to agrimony, only I got a very stiff neck. I thought it might be part of the healing process, but I really couldn't deal with the tension anymore, so I went off the stuff.
Can it be that I'm simply taking something I don't need and so I'm getting negative symptoms? Curiouser and Curiouser.. I really don't have any clue. Give me one.

Re: feeling worse on crab apple?
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 3:34 PMAlso, crab apple seems to be recommended to speed up the healing crisis other remedies may cause. Why then would crab apple be giving me negative symptoms? I'm having near-passing-out moments on this stuff, so maybe I should wait until a more conducive time for resting in order to wait this out. -

Re: feeling worse on crab apple?
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 4:40 PMHi there,
What exactly are you trying to achieve by taking Crab Apple? Bach Flower Remedies are for rebalancing negative emotions to positive. Whilst that can help you on your journey to psychological and spiritual recovery which will have a knock-on effect on your physical health, BFR do not act directly on physical dis-ease.
"Also, crab apple seems to be recommended to speed up the healing crisis other remedies may cause."
Your statement here interests me and I wondered where you got this info. Also, why must this be a healing crisis? I'm not criticising - just interested.
In my experience with BFR, I've never come across anyone who's experienced negative symptoms by taking BFR. Either BFR work positively or they don't work at all and this is invariably because the most needed BFR for that specific time point has not be chosen. I am not belittling your experience in any way, just saying that with so little info other than your healing crisis symptoms, it's difficult to shed any further light on what might be going on. I do appreciate that you might not want to share personal stuff on a public message board though.....

Re: feeling worse on crab apple?
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 6:20 PMyou can find a lot of accounts of "healing crises" using google. just search "flower essence healing crisis". it seems like a legitimate phenomenon. i dunno.. i can honestly say that i had no expectations one way or the other with the bfm, and didn't really believe in the esoteric mode of action by which these are supposed to affect people(i'm not even sure if i do now). considering that i expected, both times i took essences, that i would either feel nothing or feel better, i was surprised that it seemed to have a negative effect. this could just be coincidence, so i'm going to stop taking the essence and try it again at a later time to see if i have the same effect
"BFR do not act directly on physical dis-ease. "
i'm not sure whether this is true or not. a google search turns up lots of results saying that crab apple works on the physical body and matthew wood goes into a lot of detail on cases where the essences alleviated physical symptoms in his patients
thank you

Re: feeling worse on crab apple?
Sat, January 19, 2008 - 12:54 AMPreposterous!
Flower essences do not generate such symtoms!
These plant intelligences are pattern infused entities
that facilitate emotional balancing, clearing and uplift.
They are helping allies that work in conjunction with
our own subtle bodies to bestow blessings.
They can assist us in realizing the truth, when we have been
dancing with denial.

Re: feeling worse on crab apple?
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 11:37 PMmy first thoughts on this is that you might want to limit your flower essence intake to 1-2 drops once a day. you might also want to check out a book called floral acupuncture and have a treatment with flower essences that way. external skin application instead of internal.

Re: feeling worse on crab apple?
Sat, January 19, 2008 - 9:27 AMIt is my understanding that the healing crises brought about by flower essences are more emotional/spiritual than physical in nature, and that has certainly been my own experience.
However... Crab Apple helps to eliminate impurities (or the perception of impurities) from your energetic and physical fields. As it works to help you release the impurities energetically, the body can then release what toxins it has been holding as well. And so it seems perfectly possible to me that one could feel ill as this "stuff" gets moved through and out of the body. That's a healing crisis.
Powerful clearing and balancing can be shock to your system, and so I usually take one or two other essences to support and ease the process in addition to the main essence I'm working with. It varies depending on my circumstance at the time, but quite often I take something like Rescue Remedy if things start feeling difficult.
Recently I did some intensive work with my practitioner which left me feeling extremely disoriented for a day. I wouldn't say that it felt like a hangover, but it was a struggle to maintain focus and to remember where I was and what I was supposed to be doing.
The symptoms that you describe, whelky, sound a bit extreme and make me suspect that it might not be the flower essence, but I would not rule it out. If it were me, I'd try dosing less frequently (like once or twice a day at most) and see if that helps. -

Re: feeling worse on crab apple?
Sat, January 19, 2008 - 2:26 PMI've worked intermittently with Flower Essences -- Bach, FES, and a few other regionals -- since 1994, mainly on myself, roommates, and lovers. And we've all tended to experience some moment of intensity in the process. Especially in the winter months.
My theory now, having gotten some support from body workers and energy healers when working with the Plant Devas, is that the catharsis of "clearing" emotional patterns can be subtle and gentle. But if the grief, trauma, or other woundings are deep... so too is the healing therof.
Your mileage, of course, may vary! -

Re: feeling worse on crab apple?
Thu, January 24, 2008 - 3:14 PMHi Whelky,
When I say that BFR have no direct effect on phsyical dis-ease I am directly referring to Dr Bach's original work. I only work with BFR so I can't comment on the effects of other flower essence systems. I'm aware that there is a lot of writing out in the ether that suggests BFR do work directly on phsyical dis-ease, however, as I practise in strict accordance with Dr Bach's original teachings, I don't follow this philosophy. Dr Bach was way ahead of his time and in the 1930s was already writing medical papers outlining his belief that physical disease is caused by emotional-pyscho-spiritual imbalance. The whole point of his developing BFR was to have a sort of First Aid kit for emotional-psycho-spiritual imbalances and by using BFR to re-balance to positive, you could avoid physical dis-ease developing at all or lessen its impact on the individual. That is not to say that BFR can't have an indirect effect on physical health - they do. Re-balancing negative emotions will allow spiritual and psychological healing which will, in turn, enable some physical healing. This does not mean that the physical ailment is miraculously cured, it means that the individual may find some degree of physical improvement or that they are better able to cope and live with whatever their physical dis-ease may be.
If you would like to read more about Dr Bach's original work, you can find info here:

I don't walk in your shoes so it's not for me to say that what you describe as healing crisis is or is not caused by BFR. As we are driven by our emotions and state of mind, it is certainly a possibility. That said, perhaps it would be more beneficial to stop focussing on the healing crisis and look at whether Crab Apple is doing what you hoped it would for you.
HTH,
Kath
